Backdrop CMS now requires MySQL or MariaDB version 5.5 or higher. This is an increase from the previous minimum of MySQL 5.0.
MySQL 5.0 and 5.1 have not been supported since 2013 (11 years ago). With our limited ability to test or install these old versions, Backdrop core is officially dropping support for them. Backdrop core Telemetry reports that 0% of sites running Backdrop were on these older versions.
If your site is running one of these very old MySQL versions, upgrade your server or switch hosting providers before upgrading to Backdrop 1.30.0.
