Core installation profiles (such as 'standard' and 'minimal') are now located in the /core/profiles directory. This makes updating Backdrop easier as there are now less files outside of the /core directory to worry about keeping up-to-date.
Un-modified copies of core profiles still in the root /profiles directory should be removed manually. And if there are no custom/contrib installation profiles in the root /profiles directory, the entire /profiles directory can also be removed.
